Mike and Shawn and Aaron Go to the Movies

It sounds like a really bad movie, doesn't it? One along the lines of Wayne and Garth. It's not that bad, promise.

You may have heard a brief mention about a little-talked-about movie called Star Trek. It was released earlier this month to little fanfare.

Mike and some guys from our home group grew up watching the original series, and decided to go see the movie together. How great is that, three children of the eighties, reliving their childhood, but able to drive themselves.

As you can imagine, finding a time all three could go was quite a challenge. They all have full-time jobs (an IT guy, a cop, and a pastor. I know there's a joke in there somewhere.), they're all married, and they all have multiple children involved in multiple activities. What could possibly go wrong?

Mike left the house Wednesday night around 9:00. There was a 9:40 showing at the local theater. By 11:00, he was pulling into the driveway. Wow. They must've gotten the condensed version.

He walked in and declared, "That's only the second movie I've ever walked out on!"

My heart sank to my feet. The kids and I had prayed they would have great time, that they would be able to relax and have fun, and forget about the things that weigh on them.

Apparently not.

If you will remember, it was very stormy Wednesday night. The wind was howling past the house, the rain was horrible. It was that way at the theater, also. So bad in fact, a transformer apparently blew. So, they got passes to come back and finish the 66 minutes they had left to watch.

But, the good thing was, the previews were exciting because they were for movies like Transformers, another show they watched when they were young, plus dolls (excuse me, ACTION FIGURES) they used to play with.

It might be an interesting summer.
