What a week this has been!
Thursday was "Take Your Daughter and Son to Work" Day. Miracle was finally old enough to go. Mike woke her a little after 5:00 am, and off to work they went. She was exhausted when they got home, but she said she really enjoyed it. She got her own badge (she was disappointed because it didn't open any doors), and she got to eat lunch in the cafeteria. She said it was the best cheese pizza she'd ever had in her entire life!
They didn't stay the entire day. Mike had to come home from work early because we had to be back in Columbus by 5:30. We had volunteered to work at the Shaohannah's Hope booth at the Steven Curtis Chapman concert. What a great time!
We met some really great people. The ones from Shaohannah's Hope were so nice. Gabe, from AWAA, was fabulous. His hair was something you have to see to believe! We got to see all of the Casting Crowns and Chris Thomlin part. We were busiest at the booth during and after intermission. We missed seeing most of Steven Curtis Chapman's part, but we were able to hear it all. It was truly an awesome concert!
The best part, though, was talking to the people who stopped at the booth. Some just wanted to enter the CD drawing. Others wanted to join the Stevie Joy Club. Quite a few, though, wanted to know about adoption. That's something we really like to talk about! They wanted to know how to get started, when could they apply for a grant, who did we recommend. They wanted to know everything! And we got to hear some wonderful stories.
One lady told us how her brother adopted the last child out of Romania. Her brother and sister-in-law were actually at the airport in Romania, and had to turn around and come back home. The government was in turmoil, and all adoptions were cancelled. She said they came home and started praying. The interim government called them and told them to come get their son! Can you even imagine what the Lord has for that child?!
We spoke with families who adopted from Guatemala, Bulgaria, China, and the US. It was so amazing to hear their stories. We also got to speak with families who were in various stages of the adoption process. Some were waiting, some were doing home studies, some were just getting started. It was such a blessing to hear how God was working in so many lives. And it was wonderful to hear so many people ask how they could get started. I said we should get kick-backs from AWAA because we referred so many people!
Today, we closed on our house. I feel like we own a mortage not a house, however. Maybe I'm just too tired to feel giddy. Maybe that will come later. I'm mainly just feeling relieved that it's over!
